Tasks :
I've just started on this project. Main tasks are to :
The font on the current site, for me, is very hard to read. Large Arial is definitely not known for its legibility. As a heading, it is great, but we have very long stretches of text for which serif fonts are generally more inviting.
The current site is also optimized for an 800x600 display. Many pages feature large wasted margins of white-space on the right. This makes long stretches of text awkward looking, and headings are often then far beyond the viewport. Readers like to scan ahead and see headings outlining their path, not never ending paragraphs. This can be fixed by using a smaller, more legible font, and allowing text to expand with the browser viewport.
I've put up an image comparing some very quick, haphazard changes. With more time it could be much better.
